Kristin Dahl of DAHL HOUSE NUTRITION is a passionate holistic nutritionist, private chef, lifestyle guru, and author of the life transforming book The Art of Wellness. And she shines as though lit from within. As a fellow lover of macro bowls, tea, self care, and diving right into the heavier of your life's baggage to initiate powerful shifts, I resonate deeply with her. She is one of the most kind, compassionate, loving, grounded, and genuine beings I have had the opportunity of meeting in this life.
I invite you into Kristin's world.
SHARE WITH US A BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY IN BRINGING DAHL HOUSE NUTRITION TO FRUITION.
Dahl House Nutrition was created five years ago, after the completion of my studies at IHN in Toronto. I was living in New York at the time and it seemed that everywhere I turned, someone was in need of healing. Simultaneously, I was becoming aware that there were deeper parts of myself that needed healing as well. So, I spent several weekends devoted to working on my spiritual self and healing old wounds with shamans in upstate New York. I emerged from these weekends with a clear resolve to offer my true gifts to the world. I slowly built my practice in the city while juggling a multitude of other work at the same time. I also enrolled in several courses at the Natural Gourmet to enhance my kitchen skills and learn more about creating healthy, balanced, and nutritionally dense meals.
My practice in NY was strictly based on consultations and grocery store tours, and it wasn’t until I moved to LA two years ago that things completely transformed. I decided to pair my knowledge of nutrition with my creativity and take my business into the kitchen. I began cooking for private clients, delivering healing meals to those in recovery, and started offering complete kitchen makeovers.
My practice has led me to many wonderful places and people. I now meet privately with individuals, connect with those overseas through skype, and cook almost full time. Most recently, I partnered with a dear friend of mine, Stephanie Rice, with whom I wrote The Art of Wellness, a foundational guide to holistic health.
Dahl House is an ever-evolving portal of healing, transformation, growth, and community. The more my practice grows, the more I grow and expand myself, thus expanding the scope of what I am able to contribute to the lives of others.
WERE YOU INTRODUCED TO HOLISTIC LIVING + WELLNESS AT A YOUNG AGE OR COME ACROSS IT LATER IN LIFE?
Throughout my formative years, I spent most of my time with my best friend and soul-sister’s family. Many of the hippie choices I made where influenced by their bohemian, live off the land lifestyle. I was always amazed and inspired by their farm to table meals, homemade teas & remedies, and hand crafted creations – it all just blew me away. Despite my own family’s choices, I became vegetarian at a very young age and adopted a similar lifestyle. For many years, I was filling up on all the wrong foods (mostly carbs/gluten) and didn’t quite understand how to care for myself. For much of my youth, I struggled with severe depression, anxiety, and body issues. It wasn’t until around the age of 20 that I found yoga and began the journey to the center of myself. I sought the knowledge and support of holistic health professionals, therapists, and healers.
Around this time, my diet and lifestyle completely transformed. This radically shifted my mental health, digestive issues, and other ailments, and brought me closer to myself. I finally felt a sense of freedom and liberation from the discomfort of my troublesome youth. For the first time, I felt true happiness, peace, and connection to the world around me. I spent the next several years of my life adopting and embracing all things holistic. I studied nutrition, herbalism, shamanism, yoga, and plant based cooking. Much of my time is now spent caring for my self and my life through a holistic approach and sharing my ever-evolving wisdom with those I love.

AS A CHEF, DO YOU HAVE AN ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MEAL THAT YOU LOVE TO COOK?
The macrobiotic bowl is a long time staple! This is my favorite meal to make for others and to eat on my own. It’s perfect for any crowd as you can mix it up and make it vegan, vegetarian, or paleo. The sauce is the key ingredient that ties it all together - favorites include tahini, “peanut” sauce (made with almond butter), and miso.
WHAT IS YOUR TYPICAL BREAKFAST? LUNCH? DINNER? SNACK?
B | A superfood smoothie loaded with a variety of powders. I generally use blueberries as a base because they are low glycemic, and I love adding spinach or kale for extra fiber and protein. I go through stages with superfoods – but I love the nutty taste of maca and the energy and endorphins it gives me! If it’s not a smoothie, it’s eggs & greens with sprouts and herbs + avocado.
L | I generally make a large salad with a variety of greens, avocado, sauerkraut + nuts, or hempseeds and hardboiled eggs for protein.
D | Macro bowls are always in the rotation! Lately, I’m loving a paleo style dinner loaded with fresh greens, seasonal vegetables, and my latest obsession - pistachio, cilantro pesto.
S | Guacamole with fresh sliced veggies, green juice with bee pollen, superfood trail mix, raw chocolate, apples and almond butter.
TEA!! I’m a tea fanatic - I have a cupboard in my home with just teas in it. I love a perfectly balanced matcha latte or turmeric latte. Other favorites include tulsi, spring dragon, dandelion & peppermint. If it’s not tea, it’s water & sometimes kombucha and every once in a blue moon - rose :)
WHERE IS/ARE YOUR MOST FAVORITE PLACE/S TO BE ON THIS EARTH?
Anywhere with my love. Home - there’s nothing like the comforts of home. I’m also a lover of traveling to distant lands. One of my favorite places to be is the home of a local, having dinner over candlelight & conversation. This opens my heart, shifts my perspective, and gives me gratitude for what it means to be truly alive.
WHAT BEAUTY | FITNESS | HEALTH GURUS INSPIRE YOU?
Too many to list!! I’m truly amazed by all of the powerful and courageous women in the holistic community. Favorites include- You, of course!! Ashley Neese, Summer Sanders of Local Juicery, Lacy Phillips of Free and Native, Alexa Gray of Superfood Superlife, Rachel Garahan of One Part Gypsy, & Tara Stiles of Strala Yoga.
