I was getting a full on education about bees while I was pursuing been venom therapy as part of my Lyme treatment. Bee venom therapy was a bit challenging...to put it mildly...as getting stung isn't quite as fun as hearing about their miraculous gifts. It was going to take many more stings for enough venom to build up in my system to feel real benefits, so I took to learning about these amazing creatures more fully until I'm ready to head down the venom path again..
THEY ARE INCREDIBLE.
Throughout my healing journey I have added pollen, royal jelly + propolis into my Lyme treatment plan to help rebuild my immune system, help with the fatigue, and to get some natural antibiotic going again in my system.
**SOME BEE FACTS:
* Honeybees visit about 2 million flowers to make 1 pound jar of honey.
* A hive of bees flies 55,000 miles to make one jar of honey.
* All worker bees are female.
* Bees communicate to one another by dancing, which they can understand even in complete darkness.
* A bee's life span ranges from 3-6 weeks.
* One gallon of honey equals the combined bee flight distance of going to the moon and back.
* It takes one bee working 8 hours a day for a month to gather 1 teaspoon of bee pollen pellets, which contain over 2.5 billion grains of flower pollen loaded with micronutrients, trace elements, minerals, and antioxidents.
I've already waxed on about the multiple benefits of bee venom. Here is a breakdown of the other gifts they bestow on us, besides the monumental task of pollinating our planet. To say these are superfoods is an incredible understatement.
In the photo from L to R:
HONEY | bees swallow, digest and regurgitate nectar from flowers to make honey | it has powerful anti-bacterial + anti-fungal + antibiotic properties | high in antioxidants, and loaded with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes | can provide an energy boost prior to workouts | can be used as a relaxant and to improve sleep | used topically to treat wounds and to deeply hydrate the skin (Manuka honey masks are the best!) | honey also possesses carcinogen-preventing and anti-tumor properties | especially helpful for sore throats due to it's anti-microbial properties for killing off infection.
BEE POLLEN | one of nature's most complete foods | high in antioxidants | can be very helpful, along with honey, at reducing allergies | abundant in major and trace minerals, vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids | a rich source of protein, more so than any animal sources | helps with energy and stamina, including recovery from exercise | also helpful with asthma, constipation, colitis, + digestion as it is great for promoting healthy intestinal flora.
ROYAL JELLY | the food of Queen Bees at the larvae stage...Queen Bees are larger, more fertile, and live longer than other bees...it is thought to be because of ROYAL JELLY | a full system rejuvenator with powerful energizing properties | considered the "fountain of youth and beauty" in many cultures throughout history | contains B vitamins, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and amino acids | helps to alleviate arthritic pain, insomnia, to balance hormones, improve memory, slow signs of aging + increase overall vitality.
PROPOLIS | the substance that bees use to protect and seal their hives...It is their glue, with huge germicidal properties...It is their defense against disease in incredibly tight quarters | a powerful anti-fungal + anti-bacterial, + anti-inflammatory + antibiotic + antiseptic | is a rich source of minerals, fats, amino acid, vitamins C + E | is a very powerful immune strengthener | can be used topically, along with honey, for minor wounds or gargled for sore throats.
