Detox Baths

Detox baths have been a major player in my healing.  My body's ability to detoxify on its own has been greatly diminished by having Lyme Disease, as well as having the MTHFR gene (another complicated post).  For this reason, I rely heavily on daily wellness practices like dry brushing, Far Infrared Saunas, liver flushes, drinking alkaline water, and exercise that induces a good, proper sweat. I tailor my baths to exactly what my body is needing that day, whether that may be simple relaxation, a highly effective pain reliever, a good sweat release, or a deeper cellular detoxification.  The following are my go to's and the products that enhance the experience.

 

**A SIDENOTE | for those of you at the starting point of your detox routine, all of these baths can be used as footbaths, which is a wonderful place to begin before building up to full tub.  If you are just getting introduced to detox full baths, please start by spending less time and building up slowly to the 20-30 minutes.  Go at your own pace!

 

BASIC RELAXATION | PURE MAGNESIUM + SEA SALT...I am allergic to sulfer, which is in Epsom Salts (it's made with magnesium sulfate) so I have been loving Ancient Minerals Magnesium Flakes.  They are extracted from the Ancient Zechstein Seabed in Europe, 1600 to 2000 meters deep in the interior of the Earth, and are the most pure magnesium flakes available in the world.  To this I add a high quality Sea Salt, which helps to increase circulation, supports detoxification, and contains minerals and nutrients beneficial for healing the skin.  TO PREPARE | dissolve 1-3 cups Magnesium Flakes and 1 cup high quality Sea Salt in full bath and soak for 30 minutes if possible.  Also, add your favorite essential oils.  Drink plenty of water during and after your bath.

 

BASIC DETOX + PAIN | APPLE CIDER VINEGAR...I was using a bottle of ACV in my baths during the most intensive time of my Lyme treatment to bring down my induced fevers.  This bath is also a great overall detoxifier and wonderful for relieving muscle aches and pains.  An ACV detox bath can provide welcome relief for those with inflammation, fibromyalgia, arthritis, gout, bursitis, or tendonitis.  ACV draws out toxins, but also excess uric acid out of the body, which is created when the body breaks down substances called purines in certain foods and drinks.  Most uric acid is eliminated via the kidneys in the urine, but some folks such as those with gout can have issues with excess levels, which can be excruciatingly painful.  TO PREPARE | start with 1-2 cups Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in a full, still bath.  Soak for 30 minutes if possible.  Drink plenty of water during and after your bath.

 

SWEAT I | FRESH GINGER...if I can't fit in a sauna, using fresh ginger in my bath is a brilliant way to induce a really intense sweat.  Even after the bath is over, you may continue to sweat, which just further enhances your opportunity for a great toxin release.  TO PREPARE | grate 1/2 cup of fresh ginger.  Or you can use 1 T rounded of organic ginger powder.  Soak for 20 minutes if possible.  Drink plenty of water during and after your bath.

 

SWEAT II | DR. SINGHA'S AYURVEDIC MUSTARD BATH... I hadn't yet tried Dr. Singha's Ayurvedic Mustard Bath...mostly because all my detox bath ingredients are created and mixed up by hand for very specific results.  But I was curious and thought that this would be helpful as I was feeling particularly acidic with all the stress. I did start with a smaller amount than recommended because I have heard that for those of us on healing missions it can cause quite an intense reaction.  The Mustard Seed, along with hot water helps the skin to purge impurities. It definitely induced a nice sweat that was bearable and the essential oils of Wintergreen, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, + Thyme elevated the soothing aromatherapy experience. 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL + METAL DETOX | LL MAGNETIC CLAY...I turn to LL Magnetic Clay Detox Kits which are created with a special blend of clay, herbs, and spices geared to assist your body in ridding very specific toxin profiles, such as general environmental chemical build up, mercury, arsenic, aluminum, years of nicotine use, copper, lead, formaldehyde, and radiation.  These days, I've been working with the basic Environmental Detox formula to get rid of pesticides, chemical residues, and pollution.  I will do this 1x/week, before moving on to the bigger goal of the Mercury Detox.  These baths require proper preparation of the tub and a blender to slowly blend in the clay mixture to avoid clumping.   And they are INTENSE.  Some detox symptoms can include nausea, headaches, lightheadedness, and fatigue.  But they are super effective.  TO PREPARE | please refer to the instruction manual with the kit.  And as always, drink plenty of water during and after your bath.
