GUIDE :: NOURISH YOUR SPIRIT

M.PARKE STUDIO | 6 TIPS FOR MANAGING HOLIDAY STRESS

Things are feeling pretty out of control these days.  With so many causes needing our attention.  And with so many deep emotions + fears surfacing in regards to the future state of our country and planet.  There have been countless moments over these last months where I've just called a hard time out.  Pajamas back on.  Pulled up the covers.  And entered into a series marathon just to clear my mind.  Even with all the breathwork + meditation that I practice daily and constant mug full of nourishing herbs, my overwhelm limit has been met over + over again.  Self care + sacred rituals have never been more needed than in these uncertain times.  They serve to clear your energy and space :: hold you in the present moment of beauty + grace :: to reset your system :: to re.clarify your purpose + intentions :: along with deeply calming your nervous system.

Anxiety, relentless sadness, a heavy spirit.  Whatever you know it as, this shift into the negative is something that should be acknowledged and addressed right away.  Whenever I am hit with a debilitating bout, which has been quite a bit lately, I see it as an opportunity to step up my self-care rituals + routines even more and remind myself that there is still joy to be found in each and every day, in these special moments bring us back to our center

The following tools are my absolute essentials and have proved very helpful in calming my heart and mind.

MOVE :: whatever kind it may be :: running, walking, yoga, rebounding, spontaneous dance - even better if done in nature.  Anything to help move the lymph along, jostle your cells, and raise your vibration.  One of my favorite practices to do in the morning is 10 -15 minutes of rebounding as I know every single cell is being shifted.

SPIRIT SOAK RITUAL BATHS :: bathing in nourishing + supportive herbs has been part of my Lyme healing routine for many years now.  These days I have been drawn to infusions of Kava, Nettle, Comfrey, Damiana, Lavender, Rose, Calendula.  With the addition of any crystals that I am called to that night.  The lights are low, if not all the way off.  I smudge myself before I get in.  And soak for at least 1/2 hour.  Sometimes I add my favorite sulfur free Magnesium Flakes, along with Dead Sea Salts.

SPACE SHIFTERS :: I have been using blessings herbs of Copal + Frankincense to immediately shift the energy in my space.  To clear out any negativity.  I follow this with a smudge of Sweetgrass to invite beautiful, loving, peaceful energy back in.  I also keep Palo Santo in my car and smudge every time I get in to clear + calm for any type of roadtrip, short or long.

LISTEN :: White Sun has been on constant rotation.  It is breathtakingly beautiful.

AROMATHERAPY :: is one of my absolutely favorite go-to's to quell an impending anxiety attack, to lift the spirits + redirect focus.  I have bottles of rosewater spray that I've added drops of my favorite essential oils such as Rose Geranium, Neroli, Lemon, Orange, + Pine stashed everywhere: by my bedside, in my car, by my blender, in my purse.  I'll spray these multiple times a day around my aura and space.  Sometimes I'll even just rub some Lemon Essential Oil on the inside of my nostrils and breath that in for a while.  It uplifts your spirit, unclouds your brain, and gently brings you to the present moment.

BREATHWORK :: one of my favorite and most effective routines to instill calm + deeper clarity is Alternate Nostril Breathing, or Nadi Sodhana (Purification of Nadis or Channels).  This exercise produces optimum function + balance to both sides of the brain.  **Yogis consider this to be the best technique to calm the mind and the nervous system.

  • With finger holding right nostril close, breathe in on the left
  • Transfer finger to alternate nostril, exhale breath on the right
  • Inhale deeply on the right, close right nostril, and exhale on the left
  • Inhale deeply on left, close left nostril, and exhale on right
  • Repeat 10 times each side for a total of 5 rounds

HERBAL INFUSIONS ::  I have been adoring infusions of my plant allies of Nettle, Oatstraw, Chickweed, Comfrey, Linden, Passionvine and Holy Basil for their adaptogenic, stress reducing, + elevating properties.  I also love all things Rose and love to sip on Rose Tea year round, which can help alleviate depression + fatigue.  And I've been enjoying Kava infusions at night to help really calm me in the evenings and set me up for good night's sleep.

MAGNESIUM :: consider adding in some Magnesium to your diet.  I consider magnesium to be the miracle relaxation mineral that most of us are severely deficient in. Everything from too much coffee, too much sweating without replenishing, to too much alcohol and stress, strips us of our magnesium levels leaving us with a huge array of symptoms that can run from muscles cramps, insomnia, anxiety, chronic fatigue, constipation and so much more. I am constantly rebuilding my magnesium levels. My essential daily magnesium supplements are Natural Calm (in my water or tea throughout the day and especially in my tea at night), Ancient Minerals Bath Flakes (in my baths), and Omica Organics Magnesium Topical Spray (post-shower, before applying body oil or cream). Also consider adding some magnesium-rich foods into your diet: kelp, dulse, almonds, Brazil nuts, figs, dates, avocado, parsley, garlic, dandelion greens, tofu and brown rice.

CALMING TONIC :: this beautiful concoction is a wonderful to help instill some calm into your day, perhaps by having it first thing in the morning.
